She lay a pondering
The sorrow deepening
Her spirit grieving
The heaviness weighing
Her down and more
Why so much pain?
She couldn’t see any gain
She had struggled
She had toiled
From dusk till dawn
Her only joy, her family
Were sitted by her side
Alas! They would not understand
Her hubby, tho’ kind and loving
Was not always perceiving
Her daughter, still a little lass
Could barely understand
Who will help her?
Who will guide her?
And free her from this despair?
The cry of a desperate woman’s heart.
